MARTIN GUNFIELD, Club Captain 2023-24
Captain’s Statement, October 2023
Well, what an honour it is to be asked to become club captain for the coming year and I thank David Steel for asking me and to congratulate him on his captaincy also. Well done mate!
What does the club means to me?
I feel that Forresters is a very welcoming and friendly club environment and open to all ages and abilities. You will find the Club’s WhatsApp Group very useful as to getting games arranged whether it be for your handicap card rounds or your general playing of fun games.
There are weekly club competitions in the Men’s, Ladies and Vets sections which are all great places to golf and meet new friends and gaming buddies. In the summer months there is a Wednesday evening fun competition that’s open to all and played in good spirits. Bank holidays normally see a mixed competition on the Mondays which is usually very well attended and good fun also.
On the course we have a good solid core of greens staff who keep our course in the best condition it can be all the time, especially the greens which are superb!!
The Club has many social evening events throughout the year and various fundraising events for charities. My chosen charity for the coming year is The Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Service which I hold very close to my heart after they tried to help and save my dad eight years ago. The costs of just a take-off for the air ambulance is in the region of £2,500 and they are charity funded only. This resource deserves all the help it can get. I hope you all will only be too happy to dig deep into your pockets over the year in my fundraising events to help support such a worthy and deserving cause!
I would like to end with an open invitation to anyone who is wanting a game, whether new members or existing members, my diary is pretty open to playing and if I can, I will be happy to join you for a round or two.
See you at the Club!
